WHAT TO EXPECT
The Process of Sleep Testing
1. Physician Referral/Self Referral
You may be referred by your physician to our office or you may do a self referral.
If your physician refers you, you more then likely will be sent over for a polysomnogram (PSG) and a consult.
If you are a self referral you will be scheduled for a consult with our sleep certified doctor and then scheduled for the appropriate testing
2. Different tests are:
Polysomnogram (PSG):
A PSG is a diagnostic study that records your brainwaves, heart function, limb movements that may be interrupting your sleep, changes to your airflow and respiration's and oxygen levels to test for sleep apnea.
For a PSG test you would come in at your allotted time. You would eat dinner before and take any medications as normal (if you take a sleeping aide you may take that when you get to the sleep center).
Dress in something comfortable. No silk or satin.
You are hooked up to leads that will be recording your brainwaves, heart function, limb movements that may be interrupting your sleep, changes to your airflow and respiration's and oxygen levels.
You will be released between 5:00am-6:00am the next morning.
If you are following up with our doctor for sleep you will be called once your results are ready. If you are seeing your physician for sleep we will fax the results to your doctor.
